The Relocation Assistance Program is intended to assist households in Broome County who are experiencing homelessness and are disproportionately affected by limited housing opportunity. Participants are provided with housing search assistance to reduce barriers to affordable housing access, short-term rental assistance (security deposit and up to 3 months of rent) to support stabilization, and supportive services for up to 6 months to promote long-term housing retention.
Eligible households include:
Persons residing in Unsheltered or Sheltered Homeless situations, whose annual household income is at or below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI)*;
Persons who are at Imminent Risk of Homelessness and will lose their primary place of residence within 14 days, whose annual household income is at or below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI)*;
Persons who are Fleeing or Attempting to Flee Domestic Violence or other life-threatening conditions, whose annual household income is at or below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI)*.
To ensure RAP assistance is made available to households for whom housing opportunity is most limited, applicants are comprehensively assessed based on factors known to contribute to housing disparity. Applicants with a higher score will have higher priority than those who have a lower score and will be considered for assistance first regardless of their application date.
